The Los Angeles Marathon goes to the sea this year, passing UCLA along the way. A few years back, when I lived on Crenshaw Blvd., I got tired of being under house arrest because of the marathon so I move to the west side. Looks like the marathon has a thing for me. Yet again, the LA Marathon will force me to be productive on Saturday and stay in (or out) on Sunday, watching out for road closures and bus route changes.
“Stadium to the Sea†– the 26 mile marathon from Dodgers Stadium to the Santa Monica Pier will pass by 24 Los Angeles landmarks, hitting Westwood along Santa Monica Blvd, Sepulveda, Sawtelle and Ohio, cutting through the Veteran’s Administration before getting on San Vicente for the last stretch.
LADOT’s road closure map
Road closures are categorized into four zones. Unfortunately, Westwood is in the middle of Zones 3 and 4 so we really have to pay attention to maneuver around the festivities. FORTUNATELY, LADOT Special Traffic Operations released a map with details on when and where the closures will occur. Metro.net has short and sweet info on bus route detours. They say all Metro Rail lines will run as scheduled, but almost 50 Metro bus routes will be affected by the marathon so make sure you take a look at the Service Changes and Map on the Metro website. Or, follow their service alerts @metrolaalerts.
On the day of the marathon, www.commuterama.com will provide real time street closures so check that out as well. All in all, the LA Marathon, Metro and LADOT has done a great job of making information available. Thanks!
