PTA Orders to Blocks Thousands of Adult Websites in Pakistan
All Pakistani ISPs internet service providers have started the process of blocking websites with adult and explicit content, news by multiple sources from the industry. Earlier this month PTA, telecom regulatory authority of Pakistan, had decided to block the access of those websites in Pakistan that have adult content. PTA has plans of blocking 150,000 such websites in coming weeks, however, initial list of 1,000 websites has been sent out to all ISPs, mobile operators and international gateways to get them blocked. We has got the said list of 1,000 websites, which we aren’t publishing it here for obvious reasons. Illegal VoIP Gateway Caught in Karachi
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted a joint raid at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi which resulted in confiscation of functional illegal gateway telephone setup. The illegal setup consisted of four GSM Gateways, Tellulars, Switches, Routers and number of SIMs of different operators. During the raid one person was apprehended. This action was a result of efforts of highly technical professionals and dedicated workers of PTA who check and monitor the illegal call termination business on twenty four hours basis and adopt different procedures and processes to apprehend persons involved in the activity, not only to safeguard the national exchequer but also to ensure severe punishment as per the law. Mobilink to Charge Rs. 2+ Tex for Every Call On Helpline
Mobilink has announced that every call made to its helpline will be charged at Rs. 2 plus tax (Rs. 2.42 including taxes) from November 15th, 2010. It merits mentioning here that Mobilink had introduced this idea of charging helpline calls back in August 2008, which was then followed by all other cellular companies. You may know that Pakistan is the only country in the world where helpline calls are being charged. Mobilink had then imposed 50 paisas on every helpline call and said that these charges are imposed to improve quality of customer support. PKNIC would offer 5000 FREE domains For Local Language Contents
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Pakistan Network Information Centre (PKNIC) have announced a joint initiative to launch local Internet content drive in the country. Under the program, PKNIC would offer 5000 FREE domains for those who would develop Local Content websites in Urdu or any other local language. PKNIC is the (ccTLD) operator for “pk domain”. ccTLD stands for country code Top Level Domain which represents a country on the Internet. Ufone has Revised its Tension Free Package 45 Paisa per 30 Seconds on 5 FnF
Ufone has revised its Tension Free Package with the name of” Tension Fee Special Package” to offer call rate of 45 paisas per 30 seconds to 5 Friends and Family numbers on any network in Pakistan. This new package is called “Tension Fee Special Package”. All existing Tension Free Package customers have been shifted to Tension Free Special Package automatically. All call charges are same as they were in old package except of 5 FNF (on-net or off-net) numbers. Daily rent of Rs. 1 plus tax is also imposed if you add FnF numbers. P.S. PTA Will Pay Taxes Every Year Now Onwards
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority PTA has become taxable, as per Finance Act, 1997, and is bound to pay taxes to FBR every year, revealed us sources close to authority. Earlier, PTA had been arguing that authority is a Government body and all revenues go directly into Government’s account; hence, it should not be taxed. In a result PTA didn’t pay taxes for over or around ten years. On other hands, large Tax Payer Unit (LTU) of FBR was consistently pushing PTA to pay taxes. In response FBR’s tax collection call; PTA took the matter in both High Court and Appellate Tribunals, and believed that PTA is not liable to pay any tax as it is authority itself. PTA Contributes Rs. 201 Million for Flood Relief Fund
Dr. Mohammed Yaseen Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), presented cheque of Rs. 201.43 million to the Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani for the “Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund 2010 for the Assistance of Flood Affected People”, established for the relief and rehabilitation of flood affected people. The amount included Rs. 200 million contribution by PTA, Rs. 0.65 million of one day salary donated by PTA employees and Rs.0.78 million collected through 1234 SMS service. Chairman PTA along with Secretary Cabinet, Mr. Abdul Rauf Chaudhary presented cheques for donation during a meeting with the Prime Minister. PTA in collaboration with telecom industry has started “1234″ SMS service to supplement the efforts of the govt in its rescue and rehabilitation efforts for the flood affected across the country. The short code 1234 has been activated from all cellular mobile operators platform. SMS can be sent to 1234 by writing “Fund” which will be charged RS.10/- excluding taxes for contributing to PM flood relief fund 2010 for flood affectees peoples.
