Today Pakistan Post has issued a special ticket stamp to commemorate Arfa Karim, once the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional, who passed away fighting a serious medical situation in Lahore at Janvery 14.

Ticket stamp Launched today in Islamabad in a ceremony on the occasion of birthday of Arfa Karim.

Along with officials from Pakistan Post, government, MNCs, and ceremony joined by Arfa Karim’s parents and two young brothers who unveil the stamp issued on Arfa Karim by Pakistan Post.

Arfa Karim Randhawa is young IT prodigy from Pakistan who in 2004 at the age of 9 became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional from Pakistan. Sharing her story on ARCast she said:

Actually when I was six years old, I saw my first computer; whenever you see something new you want to find What is it ? How does is it work ? so I ask my dad to get me a PC. He bought me one, so I used to mess around and I got to know quite a lot of things about it from the hit and trial method and in about two years I got to know how to operate windows and different softwares completely. After that, I used to make a lot of presentations for my father and my mother. My father and my mother used to watch me and say “she got some talents in computers” so then they took me to an institute near by our house and there I started to learn C sharp and then I appeared for exam of MCP.

Arfa Karim was born in 1995, in Faislabad, Pakistan. She in 2004 at the age of 9 years, became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCPs) in the world. She was invited by Bill Gates to visit the Microsoft Headquarters in USA. The vice president of the Software Development Division Mr. S. Somasegar wrote about it in his blog.

I got a chance to meet with this wonder kid – Arfa Karim Randhawa earlier this week. She is a 5th grader who visited us at Microsoft for a few days along with her father. I had a lot of fun in meeting Arfa and getting a chance to understand what motivated her to strive for such an accomplishment at such a young age. She definitely has some clear ideas about the kinds of scenarios she envisions technology can enable in the future.
My hats off to Arfa’s parents for nurturing her passion and talent and providing her with opportunities to learn and excel. I wish Arfa all the very best in her life and hope that her passion for learning and more importantly “dreaming big” enables her to do great things in her life.

In August 2005, Arfa Karim received the Fatimah Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of Science and Technology, presented by the Prime Minister of Pakistan at that time. She also received the Salaam Pakistan Youth Award again in August 2005 by the President of Pakistan Pervaiz Musharaf. Arfa Karim is also the recipient of the President’s Award for Pride of Performance. This is a very high level civil award granted to people who have shown excellence in their respective fields over a long period of time. Arfa is till now the youngest recipient of that award ever.

In 2006, Arfa was invited by Microsoft to be a part of the keynote session in the Tech-Ed Developers conference held in Barcelona. The theme of the conference was “Get ahead of the game” and Arfa was presented as a true specimen of being ahead of the game. She was the only Pakistani among over 5000 developers in that conference.

National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a mobile SMS service in collaboration with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and all operating telecom companies to determine a person’s existence in the beneficiary list for Pakistan Card project to facilitate the rain affected people in checking the status of their requests.

Deputy Chairman NADRA, Tariq Malik, stated this in a statement issued by NADRA.

He said out of 62 total 47 centers of National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) are operational in six districts i.e. Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan, Shaheed Benazirabad Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar and Sanghar whereas other 15 centers on completing its task are now addressing the complaints from genuine beneficiaries, who were unable to get registration for Pakistan Cards.

He pointed out that throughout the process, NADRA ensured strong checks in the software so that only deserving families belonging to provincially notified calamity hit areas could obtain Pakistan Cards.

Tariq Malik informed that NADRA has so far issued 592,651 Pakistan Cards in totality to heads of the rain-affected families in Sindh. 105,455 Pakistan cards in Mirpurkhas, 240,227 in Badin, 79,946 in Tando Mohammad Khan and 156,324 in Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah), 8011 in Tando Allahyar and 2684 in Sanghar have been issued to the heads of the families.

Pakistan has been included in the list of top 12 countries with highest number of SPAM

Pakistan has been included in the list of top 12 countries with highest number of SPAM over the world.

Sophos, an IT security and data protection company, revealed this in it’s latest research the top 12 countries responsible for spreading SPAM messages, especially through emails.

Before we go into details, here’s the ranking with their share of SPAM in the world:

1.United States 11.3%
2.S Korea 9.6%
3.India 8.8%
4.Russia 7.9%
5.Brazil 5.7%
6.Taiwan 3.8%
7.Vietnam 3.5%
8.Indonesia 3.3%
9.Ukraine 3.1%
10.Romania 2.8%
11.Pakistan 2.0%
12.Italy 1.9%
13.Others 36%
So clearly United States leads the chart with worst offender, but Pakistan has been creeping up the wall by originating 2 percent share of World’s total SPAM.

This share of SPAM from Pakistan is considered alarming high, given the size of internet users in the country is way low than those in other regions.

For time being this SPAM in Pakistan is largely in form of annoying adverts, mostly done through mass emailing system of Google Groups, but experts anticipate that fraudulent activities, such as phishing, Trojans, identity theft etc., may go on the rise in coming years.

We, here at ProPakistani, were able to identify those SPAM marketing emails even from big brand names, let alone those SMEs who carry these kind of activities fearlessly.

It merits mentioning here that analysts estimates 94 percent of SPAM emails coming through those specialized Google Groups which were specifically made for marketing SPAM emails. However, lately, Google has restricted Pakistani Groups from adding any user in Google Groups. Earlier, any group could add up to 100 individuals per day into their group to send them marketing emails.

If not legislated by Government of Pakistan, this number of SPAM can grow large in coming years.
