Remember when we last told you about PTCL’s (ultra) high speed broadband over FTTH, it appears that things are rolling in the positive direction. PTCL had then denied to share any information with us then, we assume the project was in test phase at that time.

Now – through a WiredPakistan user – we have come to know that high speed broadband services over FTTH are being offered by PTCL in limited areas of Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

According to a marketing brochure these high speed broadband services are offered at following prices:

Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) today announced the availability of its Smart TV PC application with which customers can enjoy digital quality live streaming of 125 channels on their DSL broadband connections without set-top box.

PTCL had previously offered the same app for EVO customers only as a pilot. Service is now extended to all PTCL broadband customers.

With this Smart TV app for PCs and Laptops, that can be downloaded from PTCL’s website, customers can watch live streaming of 125 digital quality channels on their PCs or laptops.

PTCL has said that Video on Demand isn’t available with Smart TV PC Application, instead only live streaming is available with this app.

How to Avail Smart TV App for PCs:

Customers can subscribe to Smart TV app viewing by calling 0800-80800. Along with, they will have to download the app from PTCL’s website.

• Smart TV with App for broadband customers is free of charge for first two months (from April 1st, 2013 to May 31st, 2013)
• Monthly service charges of Rs. 250 per month will apply from June 1st, 2013

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has announced discounts for its potential new customers buying EVO Cloud and Nitro Cloud devices.

PTCL has revised tariff plans for its EVO customers. Daypass plan for EVO customers will now cost Rs. 200 and will be valid for two days.

PTCL is said to be blocking torrent trackers or throttling the torrent speeds in Pakistan for last 3 days, which has resulted into a blackout of torrent downloads/uploads in the country for customers who are using PTCL DSL and wireless broadband services.

According to several reports that ProPakistani received from readers, all users are unable to keep track of torrent files and hence downloading torrent isn’t possible for them any further.

PTCL has not announced anything officially on this.

For those who don’t know, torrents are a way of exchanging files (of any type) between computers and devices using internet.

Torrents are largely known for piracy violations as torrent users transfer and exchange copyrighted software/media/movies without paying anything.

It merits mentioning here that PTCL had recently blocked Skype out calls (skype to phone calls) without announcing anything. It appears that the telecom giant is on the spree of blocking all those things which were hurting its revenues. However, customers are likely to get furious with the decision and may change their service provider.
