Samsung Announces Note 3 Neo the Cheaper Version of the Note 3

Samsung has announced a new version of its Note 3 smartphone, in the Note 3 Neo with stripped down specs and of course the price.

The display of the phone is trimmed by 0.2 inches to a 5.5″ Super AMOLED unit. The big bummer is the resolution, which is bumped down from 1080p to 720p HD. The design is inspired from the Note, however, with a leathery back.

Beneath, you will find a quad-core 1.6Ghz Cortex A7 processor. The special “LTE+” version will get a hexa-core processor though, consisting of a 1.7Ghz dual-core Cortex-A15 and a 1.3Ghz quad-core Cortex A7 processor. There will also be 2 GB worth RAM and 16 gigs of expandable storage.

Towards the back will be an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video, down from the 13mp/4K combo of the Note 3. A 2 mp camera completes the mix. Battery capacity is set at 3,100 mAh.

Being a Note, the most important aspect of the phone is the S-Pen itself which, thankfully, isn’t forgotten.

Here are the specs of the phone:

  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean customized with TouchWiz UI
  • 5.5″ Super AMOLED display with HD resolution
  • 8.6mm thick
  • Weight: 162.5g
  • S-Pen functionality
  • 1.6Ghz quad-core Cortex A7 processor
  • 2 GB RAM with 16 GB expandable storage
  • 8 megapixel rear-camera with 1080p Full HD video
  • 2 mp front-facing camera
  • NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, microUSB 2.0, USB-OTG, IR Blaster, Bluetooth 4.0
  • 3,100 mAh removable battery

The phone will be available in the coming few months. Pricing details are still undisclosed though.

QMobile Announces its First Tablet, the QTab X50 Price: PKR 24,500

QMobile has announced its first tablet for the country’s audience, the QTab X50.

The tablet measures 8 inches in size and comes with a quad-core MediaTek processor underneath.

The display is a disappointing aspect, however, with 1024 x 768 resolution. QMobile’s several phones themselves easily top that. The design is also rather uninspiring but we can live with that.

Under the hood, a 1.2Ghz quad-core MediaTek processor with 1 GB worth RAM and 16 GB expandable storage onboard. At the back sits a 5 megapixel camera, coupled by a 2 megapixel camera at the front.

The tablet comes with a SIM card slot but we don’t know whether phone calls and messaging are doable. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also onboard.

Here are the full specs of the X50:

  • Customized Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 8 inch display with resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels
  • 9.9mm thick
  • GSM support
  • 1.2Ghz quad-core MediaTek processor
  • 1 GB RAM with 16 GB expandable storage
  • 5 megapixel rear-camera
  • 2 megapixel front-camera
  • Wi-Fi, microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth
  • 4500 mAh battery
  • Price: PKR 24,500

PKR 24,500 , well, that’s not that much but when you think of comparable offerings by established names like Samsung through devices like the Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, it can be a bit tough to swallow.

You’ve got to be aware of the rights and wrongs before buying this one.

QMobile Announces Entry-Level Noir A35 for Rs. 8,950

QMobile has announced its umpteenth phone in the entry-level line-up, the Noir A35. This Android powered phone is astonishingly cheap – both in price and the quality.

The first thing you’ll notice is the breath-taking similarity between the theme on this phone and that on Samsung’s Gingerbread era smartphones. Upon getting over that, you’ll notice that the display is of WVGA resolution, 800 x 480 pixels that is. Just don’t expect AMOLED-kinda quality from it.

Scratch the surface (just throw it on the wall, it’s that easy) and you’ll find the phone comes with a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor along with 256 MB RAM. 512 MB built-in memory is also expandable via microSD. Dual-sim compatibility is also onboard.

A duo of 2 megapixel and VGA cameras can be found but other than occasional Facebook posts or selfies, we can’t think of a reason why you would want to use either of them (or make fun of yourself) for some serious photography. cleardot QMobile Announces Entry Level Noir A35 for Rs. 8,950

Here are the full specs of the phone:

  • Customized Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4″ display with WVGA resolution of 480 x 800 pixels
  • 11.4mm thick
  • Dual-sim compatibility
  • 1.2Ghz dual-core processor
  • 256 MB RAM with 512 MB expandable storage
  • 2 megapixel rear-camera
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • Price: Rs. 8,950

Priced at Rs. 8,950, you can’t get too wrong actually. At this level, you should probably even consider things like a lousy main-camera additional stuff. Forgive us for thinking too much.

Samsung Releases the Mid-Range Galaxy Neo

Samsung has announced a new phone, trying to give quite a rich feature-package for a comparatively low price, the Galaxy Neo.

The Galaxy Neo comes with a 5″ display, a quad-core processor and a 5 megapixel HD camera.

The display comes with a subpar resolution of 480 x 800 pixel resolution, which we think is a bit disappointing. The design is the same plastic which the company uses for the low-end phones.

Underneath, you will find a 1.2Ghz Cortex A7 quad-core processor, along with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB expandable internal storage. Around the back is the 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video, accompanied by a VGA shooter on the front.

The phone is powered by a 2,100 mAh battery, which is also removable. The version of OS is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, obviously customized by Samsung.

Here are the full specs of the phone:

  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI
  • 5″ display with resolution of 480 x 800 pixels
  • 9.6mm thick
  • Weight: 163g
  • 1.2Ghz Cortex A7 quad-core processor
  • 1 GB RAM with 8 GB expandable storage
  • 5 megapixel rear-camera with 720p HD video recording and LED Flash
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • Wi-Fi, 3G, FM Radio, microUSB 2.0, GPS
  • 2,100 mAh battery

The phone will be available for $360 in the coming few weeks. So that’s Samsung’s try at doing (another) mid-range right. Do they succeed or not? We leave that up to you.

With the launch of the latest range of Asha smartphones, Nokia introduces the unique ‘dual shot’ design which combines an inner layer of bold, bright coloured shell surrounded by an outer layer of crystal-clear transparency. This distinctive combination enhances the durability of the device and surely makes the smartphone user stand out of the crowd. The high-end design brought to this price point is a clear differentiator, as are the craftsmanship and attention to detail.

The Asha 500 offers a 2.8-inch screen, a 2-megapixel camera and 2G telephony while the Asha 502 comes with a 3-inch screen, and a 5-megapixel camera with flash. At the top of the current family is the Asha 503, which has a 3-inch screen made from curved Gorilla Glass, a 5-megapixel camera with flash, and 3.5G speeds.

The Asha 500 and 503 come in single- and dual-SIM variants, with Nokia’s Easy Swap technology on dual-SIM, allowing users to swap cards without restarting the phone. While all three of these new phones come with the same software and stunning hardware design, the three offer hardware specifications that scale upwards by model number and price.

As social networking is the need of the hour, these new devices allow the user to become more social across various social media. With Fastlane, users can create a personalized shortcut to the phone’s recently accessed apps, features and content, as well as future activity, such as calendar appointments.

It’s the fastest way to access an app in its last state, as well as being the social hub of the new Nokia Asha 500, 502 and 503. Deeper integration with social networks now enables live updates, which alert people to likes and comments through notifications on Fastlane so they never miss an important update.

Here are the prices:

  • Nokia Asha 500: PKR 8,300
  • Nokia Asha 502 (Dual SIM): PKR 10,400
  • Nokia Asha 503 (Dual SIM): PKR 10,950

Motorola Announces the Dual-SIM Version of the Moto G

When it comes to budget smartphones, an attractive feature in a large number of them is the availability of a dual-sim option. That’s exactly what’s the case with the Moto G. One of the best entry-level phones now comes with a dual-sim version for people who use two SIM cards on the go.

Specs (apart from the dual stand-by mode) remain the same. You get the same 4.5″ HD display with Gorilla Glass 3.

Hardware includes a 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 or 16 GB non-expandable storage and Adreno 305. A couple of 5 megapixel and 1.3 megapixel HD cameras can also be found.

Battery capacity remains at 2,070 mAh non-expandable while the OS remains Android 4.3, coupled with a thin skin from Motorola.

Pricing is set at $210 for the 8 GB dual-sim model, while the 16 gig version can be had for $30. That’s $30 more than original phone but if you really want that extra SIM slot, then we think the minor price difference is worth it.

Huawei Announces the Budget MediaPad Youth2 Tablet

Announced last year to limited acclaim, Huawei’s original MediaPad Youth is seeing an update via the new Youth2. The new Android 4.3-running tablet tablet comes with a 7″ display, a quad-core SnapDragon processor and a metallic design.

The display shouts the tablet’s budget status, thanks to subpar resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The design is nice for the range though. Despite the gigantic bezels, it comes with a metallic back.

Under the hood, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2Ghz can be found, alongside 1 GB RAM and 4 GB worth expandable storage. A duo of 3 megapixel and VGA cameras can be found at the front and back.

Quite unlike most tablets of any size, the Youth2 also supports 2G and 3G calls which should really give it an edge against most rivals.

OS running is Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, coupled with Huawei’s Emotion UI, of course. Battery capacity is set at 4100 mAh, though it should last longer thanks to Huawei’s Dynamic Power Management.

Pricing and availability details aren’t disclosed yet but if priced appropriately, it might eventually find quite a lot of success among the price-conscious crowd.
