QMobile Unveils the 7″ QTab Q300 Tablet for Rs. 14,900

QMobile is a new name in the tablet industry and while its first attempt, QTab X50, was an uninteresting and expensive offering, it hasn’t stopped trying. Its second offering lies in the more-popular 7″ territory and is called the QTab Q300.

The important thing with QTab Q300 is that like its bigger sibling, this particular tablet also comes with 2G and 3G support and unlike the QTab X50, dual-sim connectivity.

Rest of the specs for QTab Q300 are quite uninspiring given that this tablet lies in the budget territory. The display has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels which certainly isn’t impressive.

Under the hood, with QTab Q300 you get an unspecified dual-core processor, clocked at 1.3Ghz, 1 GB RAM (finally) and 8 GB internal storage, which is also expandable

Towards the back QTab Q300 has a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED Flash. A 2 megapixel camera is also found at the front of QTab Q300. You also get Wi-Fi, microUSB, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio and GPS. Battery capacity is set at 2,800 mAh which will be just fine.

QTab Q300 runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 7″ display with SVGA resolution
  • 9.5mm thick
  • Dual-SIM connectivity
  • 1.3 Ghz dual-core processor
  • 8 GB internal storage, expandable via microSD
  • 5 megapixel rear-camera with LED Flash
  • 2 megapixel-front camera
  • Wi-Fi, microUSB, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio and GPS
  • 2,800 mAh battery

Pricing for QTab Q300 is set at Rs. 14,900. So it isn’t the cheapest and comparable packages from Samsung can be had for not a lot more.

But then, virtually none of them support telephony and messaging so they are the features which make it stand out from the large crowd.

Nokia Has Announced a New Windows Phone Lumia Icon

Nokia has announced a new Windows Phone in its Lumia lineup, the Lumia Icon. The phone is based on the Lumia 1520 and has virtually the same spec sheet.

Lumia Icon comes with a 5.1″Super Sensitive ClearBlack AMOLED display with Full HD resolution. Lumia Icon isn’t the most compact of phones, being 9.8mm thick and 167g heavy.

Under the hood, Lumia Icon features with a 2.2Ghz quad-core processor with 2 GB worth memory and 32 GB non-expandable storage.

At the back lies the entire package’s main attraction: the coveted 20.1 megapixel PureView camera. It comes with a 1/2.5″ BSI, f/2.4 aperture, OIS and dual-LED Flash. It also does 1080p videos at 30 fps.

The phone also comes with all the cool software apps which comes pre-installed on the 1520, and take the same duo of 5 megapixel and full resolution photos on pressing the shutter, the former meant for easier sharing.

Connectivity options of Lumia Icon include WiFi 802.11ac, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, FM Radio and microUSB 2.0. Lumia Icon also comes with a 2,420 mAh battery which might not sound much but wireless charging is supported.

Availability and pricing details for international release are not disclosed yet.

LG Unveils the G Pro 2 Larger 5.9″ display, Spacification

LG has announced the successor to the aging G Pro in the new G Pro 2. The phone comes with a larger 5.9″ display, a Snapdragon 800 processor and a 4K-shooting camera.

The display comes with Full HD resolution and is 0.4″larger than its previous iteration.

The phone itself is quite an attractive-looking package with thin 0.33cm thin bezels and a screen-to-frame ratio of 77.2 percent.

Under the hood, you get a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.26Ghz, along with 3 GB worth RAM and either 16 or 32 GB internal memory, expandable via microSD.

At the back is a13 megapixel camera with OIS+, LED Flash and 4K video recording. You can also capture Full HD or slow-motion videos. A 2.1 megapixel camera can be found at the front.

The phone runs Android 4.4 KitKat which is customized by LG and comes with a few software tricks of its own. The most interesting of the lot is knock code, which allows the user to unlock the display by drawing any one of the 86,000 or so unlocking patterns or so on the display.

Here are the full specifications of the phone:

  • Chipset: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 (2.26 GHz Quad-Core)
  • GPU: Qualcomm Technologies’ Adreno™ 330

Samsung Announces Galaxy Star Trios With Support for Three SIM Cards

Samsung has announced a new smartphone for SIM-card collectors. The new Galaxy Star Trios goes one step above its Duos cousin and houses three SIM-card slots.

The phone obviously lies in the budget market and its maker tries to hide nothing with its 3.1″ display with resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

The same thinking runs deep down to the hardware. You get a single-core Snapdragon S1 processor and 512 MB RAM. A lonely rear-camera sans flash is found at the back while the front is totally bare.

  • Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean customized with TouchWiz
  • 3.1″ display with QVGA resolution of 240 x 320 pixels
  • 11mm thick
  • Weight: 105g
  • 1Ghz single-core Snapdragon MSM7225A S1 processor
  • 512 MB RAM with 4 GB expandable internal storage
  • 2 megapixel rear-camera with VGA video
  • Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, microUSB 2.0, Radio
  • 1,300 mAh battery
  • Available in Black and White

The phone will be available for a not-so-tempting price tag of $165. Unless you really need three SIM card slots, this is Moto G-owned territory and we don’t see anyone nearby here.

Nokia Has Plans to launch First Android Phone Soon

Nokia has plans to launch a long-rumoured Android phone later this month at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, reported Wall Street Journal.

Phone is widely reported to be aimed at low-end segment of the developing markets.

Report said that Nokia X – code named Normady – will come with a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 4-inch WVGA screen, 512MB of memory, 4GB of storage, and a microSD card slot.

It will reportedly sport a 5MP camera, a 1,500mAh battery, along with dual-SIM option.

Speculations say that Nokia won’t allow the “Play Store” access to this phone, instead Microsoft and Nokia developed services – such as Here maps and Mix Radio — will be offered along with Nokia’s own store with popular Android Apps, such as Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp etc..

Nokia X will Finally change Nokia’s decision for not going Android. Company remained committed to Windows Phone operating system for its high-end smartphones.

However, we have seen Nokia testing various other home-grown operating systems for its low-end phones for developing markets. Android on a low-end phone from Nokia seems in-line with this long-running policy.

Nokia’s hardware run by Android phone would be an interesting proposition. This may not only revive the brand, which was sold to Microsoft last year, but may also help result into faster adoption of smartphones in developing markets, especially if phone is priced well.

Huawei Has introduced Huawei Ascend G700 Dual-SIM

Huawei has introduced its much anticipated Dual-SIM smartphone, the Ascend G700 last month in Pakistan. This phone comes with high end specifications at a very reasonable price.

Ascend G700 features a big 5-inch IPS display with 720p resolution. It packs 1.2GHz MediaTek Quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 8GB expandable storage.

This latest smartphone from Huawei is equipped with 8-megapixel single LED BSI camera and 1.3-megapixel front facing camera for video calling.

Like all other Huawei smartphones, G700 has EmotionUI on top of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. (This phone might get official 4.4 update in the coming months)

G700 is available all over Pakistan at a price of Rs. 25,500 (You may get it for more or less, depends upon the market).

Mobilink is also selling this phone with unlimited mobile internet bundle. Available in two colors; full black and with white back, Ascend G700 comes with one year warranty of Airlink Communication as well as M&P Warranty.

After much wait, we finally got our hands on this device and prepared an un-boxing hands-on video, Full review is in progress and will be published very soon:

United Mobile Launches Octa-Core Voice X5 in Pakistan

Local mobile phones distributor, United Mobile launched its latest and most expensive android smartphone yet — the Voice X5, the first smartphone from the United Mobile to feature an octa-core processor in Pakistan.

X5 features a large 5-inch OGS crystal display, 1080p screen resolution and 440ppi pixel density. As compared to other smartphones by voice it has a better build quality with a sleek and stylish design, however it is strikingly similar to Xiamoi MI-2 .

As I mentioned earlier this phone is packed with an octa-core processor, we are not sure about the actual performance but clocked at 1.7GHz it will surely beat the competition. The phones comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage with an option to expand storage up to 32GB.

Voice X5 also features 13-megapixel primary camera with dual-LED flash and 5-megapixel secondary camera for video calling.

Other notable features include Dual SIM functionality, NFC and USB on the go, so you can also use your 3G dongle with it.

All the specifications seems very nice on the paper but the 2000mAh battery is the deal breaker. The company claims that their battery saving technology will help you get this phone running for a single day but I guess power users will have to charge the device multiple times a day.

Voice X5 comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, when asked about future upgrades we were shocked to hear that this phone won’t get any OS updates officially.

Pricing & Availability:

This phone is available with one year warranty of United Mobile all over Pakistan and comes with a hefty price tag of Rs. 39,000.

Currently it is only available in White color (White back).

Do you think this device is worth 39,000? and can it beat the market giants like Samsung, Huawei or even QMobile? Do share your opinion in the comments.

The Acend G700 is priced at Rs. 25,899 while Y220 comes for Rs. 7,499.
