Samsung Releases the Mid-Range Galaxy Neo

Samsung has announced a new phone, trying to give quite a rich feature-package for a comparatively low price, the Galaxy Neo.

The Galaxy Neo comes with a 5″ display, a quad-core processor and a 5 megapixel HD camera.

The display comes with a subpar resolution of 480 x 800 pixel resolution, which we think is a bit disappointing. The design is the same plastic which the company uses for the low-end phones.

Underneath, you will find a 1.2Ghz Cortex A7 quad-core processor, along with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB expandable internal storage. Around the back is the 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video, accompanied by a VGA shooter on the front.

The phone is powered by a 2,100 mAh battery, which is also removable. The version of OS is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, obviously customized by Samsung.

Here are the full specs of the phone:

  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI
  • 5″ display with resolution of 480 x 800 pixels
  • 9.6mm thick
  • Weight: 163g
  • 1.2Ghz Cortex A7 quad-core processor
  • 1 GB RAM with 8 GB expandable storage
  • 5 megapixel rear-camera with 720p HD video recording and LED Flash
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • Wi-Fi, 3G, FM Radio, microUSB 2.0, GPS
  • 2,100 mAh battery

The phone will be available for $360 in the coming few weeks. So that’s Samsung’s try at doing (another) mid-range right. Do they succeed or not? We leave that up to you.

Pakistan Soon to Get DTH Services

DTH or Direct-to-home TV system is usually perceived as an expensive solution and majority hold the view that cable TV is not going to get replaced by DTH due to its cost-effectiveness.

Even PEMRA believes that DTH might not entirely replace cable TV, even in the long run.

PEMRA’s spokesperson, while commenting on the situation, said “The fact that DTH will come to Pakistan does not mean cable system will be demolished from grass root levels. Both services will be employed simultaneously by users”.

DTH, on the other hands, obviously offers the advantage of superior quality and hence quality conscious people would immediacy opt for DTH.

Not to mention, audio and visual quality provided by DTH is unbelievably commendable. Each colour, graphic and sound is enhanced. While we aren’t sure about the adaption rate as of now, but surely DTH technology awareness will spread from classes to the masses during the time to come.

Talking about adaption is probably too early right now as many of us are even not sure about when DTH is actually going to surface in Pakistan.

If you can recall, PEMRA had very proudly announced the issuance of two licenses for DTH to Cross Currents (Pvt) Limited and ARY communication back in December 2003.

Both the groups, however, shelved the projects as everything was put to hold.

But now, news from various authentic sources have confirmed that only numbered weeks are left to finally welcome the most advanced and breakthrough TV broadcast technology in Pakistan.

The time left to experience Pakistani DTS is inversely proportional to the number of consumers of illegal Indian Dish TV in Pakistan.

Just in case if you don’t know, people across Pakistan have purchased illegal STBs (Set-Top-Box ). Each month they are paying at least Rs. 1,000 and the one time installation is costing them Rs. 7,000-8,000.

These Indian DTH services offer a total of 99 channels, out of which almost 50 are foreign news channels, while 35 others are regional Indian channels. Only 15 channels are what Pakistanis get against such hefty investments.

This whole illegal Indian Dish TV market translates into $150 Million for Indian DTH service providers without any tax deduction.

Its up to PEMRA now that they make the DTH a reality in Pakistani market with local operators to earn all this money with proper taxing to aid our national exchequer.

So if you are an avid TV viewer who won’t compromise on quality then your wait isn’t going to be long enough. Instead of investing into illegal Indian Dish TV solutions, just wait a little, as Pakistan DTH operators are going to serve you very soon.

Motorola Announces the Dual-SIM Version of the Moto G

When it comes to budget smartphones, an attractive feature in a large number of them is the availability of a dual-sim option. That’s exactly what’s the case with the Moto G. One of the best entry-level phones now comes with a dual-sim version for people who use two SIM cards on the go.

Specs (apart from the dual stand-by mode) remain the same. You get the same 4.5″ HD display with Gorilla Glass 3.

Hardware includes a 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 or 16 GB non-expandable storage and Adreno 305. A couple of 5 megapixel and 1.3 megapixel HD cameras can also be found.

Battery capacity remains at 2,070 mAh non-expandable while the OS remains Android 4.3, coupled with a thin skin from Motorola.

Pricing is set at $210 for the 8 GB dual-sim model, while the 16 gig version can be had for $30. That’s $30 more than original phone but if you really want that extra SIM slot, then we think the minor price difference is worth it.

Huawei Announces the Budget MediaPad Youth2 Tablet

Announced last year to limited acclaim, Huawei’s original MediaPad Youth is seeing an update via the new Youth2. The new Android 4.3-running tablet tablet comes with a 7″ display, a quad-core SnapDragon processor and a metallic design.

The display shouts the tablet’s budget status, thanks to subpar resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. The design is nice for the range though. Despite the gigantic bezels, it comes with a metallic back.

Under the hood, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2Ghz can be found, alongside 1 GB RAM and 4 GB worth expandable storage. A duo of 3 megapixel and VGA cameras can be found at the front and back.

Quite unlike most tablets of any size, the Youth2 also supports 2G and 3G calls which should really give it an edge against most rivals.

OS running is Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, coupled with Huawei’s Emotion UI, of course. Battery capacity is set at 4100 mAh, though it should last longer thanks to Huawei’s Dynamic Power Management.

Pricing and availability details aren’t disclosed yet but if priced appropriately, it might eventually find quite a lot of success among the price-conscious crowd.
