Nokia Announced Dual-SIM Smartphone Asha 501

Nokia-Asha-501

Nokia has announced its Asha 501 smartphone to debut the Asha Platform, claimed by Nokia to offer innovative user interface, a faster and seamless mobile operating system for low-to-mid level smartphones.

Asha 501 comes with solid build and colours at an affordable price. It supports single SIM or easy-swap Dual SIM features.

Design

Nokia says that its Asha 501 offers high-end design and build-quality accessible to more people through this affordable phone. Nokia Asha 501 comes in just two parts: a durable, removable casing and the scratch-resistant glass display, which features a three-inch, capacitive touchscreen and a single ‘back’ button.

Asha weighs only 98 grams and comes in six colours.

User Interface

Asha platform is said to make things easier for people to access anything they like with a simple swipe and a choice of two main screens: Home and Fastlane. Home is a traditional, icon-based view for launching individual apps or accessing a specific feature, like the dialler or phone settings. The new Fastlane view was inspired by how people really use their phone. Recently accessed contacts, social networks and apps, unique to each person, are stored and presented in Fastlane. It provides a record of how the phone is used, giving people a glimpse of their past, present and future activity, and helping them multi-task by providing easy access to their favorite features.

Asha Platform

Nokia has this tendency of introducing various mobile operating platform, but not sticking to anyone. Asha platform is hoped to be more usual for the firm and should become a primary platform for Asha series of phones.

The new Asha platform provides developers with an open, standards-based environment for creating quality apps for consumers. Developers can create apps for the Nokia Asha 501 that will be compatible with future Asha platform-based devices.

Nokia gives developers the chance to make more money through the global reach of Nokia Store and tools like Nokia In-App Payment and Nokia Advertising Exchange (NAX), as well as Nokia’s unparalleled operator billing network.

Nokia said that Asha already offers some popular applications including CNN, eBuddy, ESPN, Facebook, Foursquare, Line, LinkedIn, Nimbuzz, Pictelligent, The Weather Channel, Twitter, WeChat, World of Red Bull and games from Electronic Arts, Gameloft, Indiagames, Namco-Bandai and Reliance Games. WhatsApp and other key partners continue to explore new Asha.

48 Days of Battery

Nokia Asha 501 is claimed to offer whooping 48 days of battery stand-by – when using a single SIM.

Samsung New Galaxy Tab 3.0 Announced

Galaxy-Tab-31

Samsung has added a new tablet to its ever-growing line-up of Android devices, this time the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. The tablet has a 7 inch display and runs on a dual-core processor. It follows the same design language (and the build materials) as the current Galaxy products.

The tablet is by all means meant to be a mid-range offering. Its 7 inch display is of WSVGA resolution i.e. 600 x 1024 pixels. And judging by the screen size, it’s a Nexus 7 competitor.

As expected, it follows the footsteps of the current Galaxy line-up of devices by featuring virtually the same design as nearly all of them. That too is not necessarily a bad thing but haters won’t find the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 adorable either.

Under the hood, the tablet runs on a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor along with 1GB of RAM. There will be 8 or 16GB internal storage options, expandable via a microSD card slot.

On the software side of things, the tablet runs on Android 4.1, which is not exactly the latest but is not exactly a bad thing to have. And of course, all the famous Samsung apps come along with the tablet too.

Here are the full specifications of the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0.

  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean customized with Nature UI
  • 7 inch display with resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels
  • Weight: 306g
  • 9.9mm thick
  • Optional 3G version with voice call functionality
  • 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor
  • 1 GB RAM with 8/16 GB internal expandable storage
  • 3.15 megapixel back camera with 720p HD video recording
  • 1.3 megapixel front-camera
  • USB 2.0, Bluetooth 3.0, dual-band Wifi, Wifi Hotspot
  • 4000 mAh battery

There will be a 3G version of this tablet with voice call functionality too. The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 will be available in May but pricing details are unknown as of now.

Acer Liquid E2 the Quad-Core Running Android phon

acer_liquid_e2

Acer has announced another Android phone in its Liquid series of smartphones, this time the Android Jelly Bean running Liquid E2. The mid-range phone comes with a quad-core MediaTek processor.

It comes with a 4.5 inch IPS display with resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, which sums up to about pixel density of 245 pixels per inch. Above the display is a 2 megapixel front facing camera for video calling.

At the back you’ll find an 8 megapixel camera which is capable of recording 1080p Full HD videos at 30 frames per second.

The connectivity package is quite modest with microSD card slot, Wifi Hotspot, Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB 2.0, Radio, GPS and 3G.

On the software side, the phone runs on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean which is one of the later versions and it is customized by Acer.

Here are the specifications:

  • Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean
  • 4.5 inch IPS display with resolution of 540 x 960 pixels
  • Optional dual-sim
  • 1.2Ghz quad-core Cortex A7 processor
  • MediaTek chipset
  • PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU
  • 1GB RAM with 4GB internal storage
  • microSD card slot, Bluetooth 3.0, microUSB 2.0, Wifi Hotspot
  • Radio, GPS, stereo speakers
  • 8 megapixel back camera with 1080p Full HD video recording
  • 2 megapixel front facing camera
  • 2000 mAh battery
  • Available in Black and White

The phone will go on sell this May for a price of 229 Euros or about Rs. 26,000. It will be available in 2 colours and there will be a dual-sim version of the phone too.

For its price though, I think the package is quite modest considering the fact that you’re getting a quad-core processor, 2000 mAh battery, 1GB RAM and an 8 megapixel camera. It should hit the Pakistani market later this year.

Internet Payments Made Easy in Pakistan NIB Bank brining Internet Payment Gateway

It appears that the wait for having an online payment processing platform is over now. NIB Bank has announced that it is brining Internet Payment Gateway in Pakistan that will allow online businesses to charge their customers through debit or credit card for the stuff they will buy on internet.

Establishment of Internet Payment Gateway in Pakistan is long pending, which was first announced by PTA in 2009. After that Bank Al-falah, along with its sister concern, claimed similar deployments but nothing turned into reality.

Agreement between Mastercard and NIB was signed on 5th April 2013 at NIB Bank’s Head Office, Karachi, by Mr. Khurram Agha, Group Head Operations & Technology – NIB Bank and Aurangzaib Khan, Country Manager, Pakistan and Afghanistan for MasterCard.

Now that NIB has partnered with MasterCard it is likely that MasterCard Internet Gateway Service (MiGS) will finally come to Pakistan.

With this service, merchants will be able to charge internet surfers with their debit/credit card for the services or products they sell on internet.

“Now, NIB Bank merchants will be able to process payments from cardholders on their online Web stores in real-time. As a MasterCard acquirer, NIB Bank will offer merchants world class, secure internet payment processing capabilities”, said a statement issued by NIB Bank.
