United Mobile Launches Octa-Core Voice X5 in Pakistan

Local mobile phones distributor, United Mobile launched its latest and most expensive android smartphone yet — the Voice X5, the first smartphone from the United Mobile to feature an octa-core processor in Pakistan.

X5 features a large 5-inch OGS crystal display, 1080p screen resolution and 440ppi pixel density. As compared to other smartphones by voice it has a better build quality with a sleek and stylish design, however it is strikingly similar to Xiamoi MI-2 .

As I mentioned earlier this phone is packed with an octa-core processor, we are not sure about the actual performance but clocked at 1.7GHz it will surely beat the competition. The phones comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage with an option to expand storage up to 32GB.

Voice X5 also features 13-megapixel primary camera with dual-LED flash and 5-megapixel secondary camera for video calling.

Other notable features include Dual SIM functionality, NFC and USB on the go, so you can also use your 3G dongle with it.

All the specifications seems very nice on the paper but the 2000mAh battery is the deal breaker. The company claims that their battery saving technology will help you get this phone running for a single day but I guess power users will have to charge the device multiple times a day.

Voice X5 comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, when asked about future upgrades we were shocked to hear that this phone won’t get any OS updates officially.

Pricing & Availability:

This phone is available with one year warranty of United Mobile all over Pakistan and comes with a hefty price tag of Rs. 39,000.

Currently it is only available in White color (White back).

Do you think this device is worth 39,000? and can it beat the market giants like Samsung, Huawei or even QMobile? Do share your opinion in the comments.

Punjnud: Dedicated Urdu Keyboard for Android Devices

Being an Urdu blogger and promoter of Unicode Urdu, I have to write lots of Urdu everyday. While doing so on a PC/Laptop there are many software and keyboard layouts available that let you write Urdu fonts but for smartphones and tablets you don’t have much options.

I had been using Multiling keyboard on all of my Android devices for last few months. It has support for more than 130 languages including Urdu, but today I found another great dedicated Urdu Keyboard called Punjnud Keyboard available on the Play Store for free.

The good thing about Punjnud Keyboard is that you don’t have to install any additional plugin or anything. Its just like any other keyboard (such as Swift) that you just download and ready to type in Urdu.

The app developer claims that it is the first keyboard to introduce Urdu, Punjabi, Pashto and Sindhi layouts on Android — which of course isn’t true, but its always good to have more choices.

How to use Punjnud keyboard:

After installing the Punjund keyboard application from the Play Store — here’s the link— go to your phone settings.

Select Languages & Input and then enable the Urdu Keyboard option, after that make it default keyboard and that’s it.

Please note that the system might warn you that the keyboard can collect your personal data and passwords, but don’t worry this app doesn’t have access to the network so even if it tries to store your data it can never transmit it.

Punjund keyboard has 5 language layouts, including Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto and English.

You can easily change them by clicking on the language button on the bottom left.

Unlike other keyboards it has a very basic and user friendly layout. However it misses some fancy stuff like themes, emoji and dictionary/word prediction. There are some minor bugs there too, such as key pop up doesn’t show the letter etc, but I hope developer will fix them in the coming updates.

According to the developer this keyboards is optimized for Jelly Bean users, so if you are using earlier versions of Android or if your phone doesn’t have Arabic support you will find some issues in typing Urdu as characters will not join together to make a word.

Just in case if you missed the URL above, here is the the download Link again.

Huawei Announces the Budget Ascend Y530

Huawei has announced a new budget phone for its price-conscious audiences with the new Ascend Y530. The phone comes with a 4.5″ display and a youthful design.

The display comes with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels which is just fine for a display of this size.

Under the hood, you’ll find a 1.2Ghz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor with 512 MB RAM and 1 GB expandable storage.

Around the back lies a 5 megapixel camera with LED Flash, coupled by a VGA shooter at the front.

The OS running on the phone is Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, customized with Emotion UI. A 1,750 mAh battery completes the mix.

Here are the specs of the phone:

  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean customized with Emotion UI
  • 4.5″ display with 480 x 854 resolution
  • 9.3mm thick
  • Weight: 145 grams
  • 1.2Ghz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor
  • 512 MB RAM with 1 GB expandable storage
  • 5 megapixel rear-camera with LED Flash
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • 1,750 mAh battery

Samsung Announces Note 3 Neo the Cheaper Version of the Note 3

Samsung has announced a new version of its Note 3 smartphone, in the Note 3 Neo with stripped down specs and of course the price.

The display of the phone is trimmed by 0.2 inches to a 5.5″ Super AMOLED unit. The big bummer is the resolution, which is bumped down from 1080p to 720p HD. The design is inspired from the Note, however, with a leathery back.

Beneath, you will find a quad-core 1.6Ghz Cortex A7 processor. The special “LTE+” version will get a hexa-core processor though, consisting of a 1.7Ghz dual-core Cortex-A15 and a 1.3Ghz quad-core Cortex A7 processor. There will also be 2 GB worth RAM and 16 gigs of expandable storage.

Towards the back will be an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video, down from the 13mp/4K combo of the Note 3. A 2 mp camera completes the mix. Battery capacity is set at 3,100 mAh.

Being a Note, the most important aspect of the phone is the S-Pen itself which, thankfully, isn’t forgotten.

Here are the specs of the phone:

  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean customized with TouchWiz UI
  • 5.5″ Super AMOLED display with HD resolution
  • 8.6mm thick
  • Weight: 162.5g
  • S-Pen functionality
  • 1.6Ghz quad-core Cortex A7 processor
  • 2 GB RAM with 16 GB expandable storage
  • 8 megapixel rear-camera with 1080p Full HD video
  • 2 mp front-facing camera
  • NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, microUSB 2.0, USB-OTG, IR Blaster, Bluetooth 4.0
  • 3,100 mAh removable battery

The phone will be available in the coming few months. Pricing details are still undisclosed though.
